Math Placement Test (MPT) for Current Students

First-time-in-college (FTIC) Students Important Information:

First-time-in-college students entering UCF in Summer and Fall 2012 who have paid their enrollment deposit will receive an email with instructions about taking the Math Placement Test. FTIC students should take the Math Placement Test from the convenience of a computer with a secure internet connection at least 2-weeks prior to attending their scheduled Orientation date. The Math Placement Test (MPT) is required for all students who have not earned a "C" or better in a college level math course at UCF, or another College or University. The MPT is an assessment of the math skills that students have acquired and is designed to determine proficiency level and therefore placement for math courses. The MPT will help students, with the assistance of their academic advisors, select math courses for which they are most prepared and will likely be successful. The MPT must be taken prior to registering for math courses or a student would need to begin their math sequence by enrolling in MAT 1033, Intermediate Algebra.

Required Practice Test Procedures:

There are three (3) Math Placement Tests: Algebra, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus. All students must start by taking the Practice Algebra Test. Although students are required to complete one (1) attempt on each of the practice tests, repeated attempts are possible if students would like to gain more experience.

1. Establish a web connection to www.ucf.mylabsplus.com
2. Log in using your username (NID) and password
   • Click here to look up your NID and click on "What are my PID and NID?"
   • Click here to retrieve your NID password. You will need to enter your NID as your login and click on the "forgot my password" link to have your password sent to you. Your password email will be sent from helpdesk@ucf.mylabsplus.com and may appear in your spam or junk folder. Please link helpdesk@ucf.mylabsplus.com as an "approved" email prior to requesting the password.
3. Once you are logged in, select "course" under Course List
4. Click the title of the "course." (For example: UCF Placement Test 2011 - 1/3/11 or UCF Placement Test 2011 - Current Students)
5. Read the important announcement on the right side of the page
6. Run the browser check and install or update any necessary components
7. Click on the button labeled UCF Placement Tests
8. In the dropdown menu, select Placement Tests
9. Click on Placement Tests on the right side of the page
10. Accept the license agreement and privacy policy in order to proceed
11. There will be a list of practice tests available to choose from

Please Note: Students must take the Practice Test(s) prior to arriving on test day. If you arrive on test day and have not completed the Practice Tests(s), you will be unable to test.

Prior to Test Day:

• Take the required practice test(s).
• Know your UCF NID and password. Your UCF NID is the username you will need to access the practice test(s) and actual Math Placement Test (MPT).
• Submit payment, if applicable (Review "Payment Information" below).
• Select a test date. Testing is available on a walk-in basis on the following dates and during the times listed below:

Payment Information:

• All students that enrolled at UCF prior to Summer 2010 must pay $6.00 to take the MPT.
• Transfer students that enrolled at UCF Summer 2010 or after must pay $6.00 to take the MPT.
• Payment must be made in the form of check or money order only. The student's name and PID must be written at the top of the check or money order. No other method of payment is accepted.
• Payment must be made at the University Testing Center (UTC), Howard Phillips Hall, Room 106, at least one (1) business day prior to testing. UTC is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Math Placement Test Format:

The MPT consists of three (3) tests: Algebra, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus. All students are required to start with the Algebra test. Students who score 350-500 on the Algebra test may advance to the Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus tests.

Test Day Procedures:

1. Bring your UCF student ID card and basic scientific calculator (TI-30XA is recommended). Graphing calculators are not permitted.
2. Go to Howard Phillips Hall, Room 106, during the arrival time for the test date you selected; if you come after the arrival time, you will not be able to begin your test.
   • Howard Phillips Hall is located next to the Reflection Pond between the Library and Millican Hall. If you enter on the second floor, take the elevator or stairs down to the first floor where the University Testing Center is located. Howard Phillips Hall is building #14 on the UCF campus map. 3. Log in to the MPT using your UCF NID and password.
