Current UCF Students

The Math Placement Test (MPT) is required for all current students who have not earned a "C" (2.0) or better in any college level math course at UCF, or another college or university. The MPT must be taken prior to registering for UCF math courses or a student will need to begin their math sequence by enrolling in MAT 1033, Intermediate Algebra.

MPT Registration Steps

  1. Review the MPT Test Frequently Asked Questions

It is your responsibility to review important information provided in the MPT Frequently Asked Questions prior to taking the test.

  2. Verify you are eligible to take the MPT

Email Math Placement at mathplacement@ucf.edu in order to see if you are eligible to take the UCF Math Placement Test. Indicate Eligibility Status in the subject line and your email message must include:

    1. First Name

    2. Last Name

    3. UCF PID

    4. Phone number

    5. List any college level math courses you have taken and the grade you earned in each course.

Please allow 1-2 business days (Monday-Friday) excluding any holidays for your eligibility to be confirmed. Do no remit payment until you have received confirmation of your eligibility to test.

  3. Remit Payment to the University Testing Center (if needed)

All students that enrolled at UCF Fall 2010 and after will not be required to pay but will need to contact mathplacement@ucf.edu if their test is listed as “past due.”

All students that enrolled at UCF Summer 2010 and prior must pay $10.00 to take the MPT. Do not submit your payment until after your eligibility has been verified.

    Complete payment online.

Please note: After completing the registration process, check your email for the test registration confirmation from RegisterBlast. At the end of the business day, you will receive the email notification with your login information and instructions from mathplacement@ucf.edu . Please retain the Math Placement email for future reference.

  4. Take the Required Practice Test

There are three (3) Math Placement Practice Tests: Algebra, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus. All students must start by taking the Practice Algebra Test. Students are required to complete the Practice Algebra Test and earn 35% or higher before proceeding to the actual Algebra test. Repeated attempts are possible on the practice tests if students would like to gain more experience. The practice test is untimed. Read the MPT Access Document for detailed instructions on how to access the Practice Test(s).

Please note: After completing the registration process, check your email for the test registration confirmation from RegisterBlast. At the end of the business day, you will receive the email notification with your login information and instructions from mathplacement@ucf.edu. Please retain the Math Placement email for future reference.

  5. Take the Math Placement Test

Since you are a current UCF student, the actual Math Placement Test must be taken in a proctored environment on campus at the University Testing Center (UTC). Below are the test day procedures and available dates.

    1. Earn 35% or higher on the Practice Algebra Test prior to test day.

    2. Testing is available on a walk-in basis during the dates and times listed below. No appointments necessary. Check-in to Howard Phillips Hall 106.

    3. Students can arrive anytime in between the designated hours. If you come after the walk-in period, you will not be able to start your test.

    4. Bring two forms of identification (a valid government issued ID and UCF student ID) and a basic scientific calculator (TI-30XA is recommended). Graphing calculators are not permitted.

    5. You will need to know your UCF NID and MyLabsPlus password on test day in order to access your test.
